Abecedarium

Letters were born of objects. They are now abstractions that stand instead for sounds. Abecedarium is an ongoing series of drawings and sculptures that explore the sense and shapes of letterforms and invite a half-return to the world of objects. The project started in 2008 with a proposal for the Laurel Park community and discovery of Williams’ 1902 History of the Art of Writing at the Richmond Public Library. A similar approach is sometimes used in the Confluence drawings of 2016-20.
