Building Neighborhood

Building Neighborhood, an entry monument. Laurel Park is a Richmond, CA neighborhood of single family homes built in the 1960s. Five or six different styles were built with the intention of creating a racially and economically diverse neighborhood. Now almost fifty years later, the community has lost any knowledge of its origins and was seeking a way to understand and celebrate its collective and distinct identity within contemporary Richmond. A collaboration was convened through a program at the Richmond Art Center, between myself and a committee of the neighborhood council.
